Geoff Celebrates 25 Years at Southwell City.

Geoff Ritson, Club Secretary at Southwell City FC, is celebrating 25 years of service as a dedicated volunteer who has helped transform his local football club into one of Nottinghamshire's largest sporting organisations.

On Saturday 30th November, we attended Southwell City's home game against Clay Cross in the UCL to present Geoff with a special recognition award for the amazing work he has done and continues to do at Southwell City. The below article was put together by the club for the matchday programme. Our thanks go to Southwell City for their hospitality on the day and of course our congratulations to Geoff who is an inspiring figure in Nottinghamshire Grassroots Football.

Starting at Southwell United (Juniors) as his son Chris' team manager, Geoff became one of the club's first Level 2 qualified coaches. His success led him to pioneer the club's girls' football programme, managing the first ever girls' team which included his daughter Jenny. This initiative has blossomed into a comprehensive girls' and ladies' section spanning all age groups.

As Club Secretary, Geoff has driven several significant achievements, including the merger between Southwell United Juniors and Southwell City. His determination to achieve Charter Standard status (now England Football Accreditation), ensuring all coaches are fully qualified, has elevated the club's standing within the county.

Most recently, Geoff has helped establish the club's first pan-disability team, further expanding its inclusive approach to community sport. His hands-on involvement extends far beyond administrative duties, from running tournaments and operating the barbecue to marking pitch lines and organising presentation days.

"The only thing he hasn't done is cut the grass!" his fellow club members joke, testament to his tireless dedication.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution, Nottinghamshire FA presented Geoff with a framed certificate and local hamper before the recent men’s first team match against Clay Cross. His legacy is evident in the thriving, inclusive club that continues to serve the local community, having grown from a small junior section to become one of Nottinghamshire's premier grassroots sporting organisations.
