England U21s to play at The City Ground
England U21s will continue the defence of their European crown at the home of Nottingham Forest in October.
The Young Lions will host Serbia at The City Ground on Thursday 12 October (7.45pm kick-off).
It will be the first time that this age group have played on home soil since winning the U21 European Championship in July. That U21 title was England’s first in 39 years as they beat Spain in the final in Batumi, Georgia having not conceded a goal throughout the entire tournament.
The reigning champions will now set out on the road to the 2025 U21 EURO in Slovakia. That qualifying campaign will begin with a trip to Luxembourg in September before Serbia are the opponents in Nottingham.
It will only be the fourth time that the U21s have played at The City Ground having previously played on the banks of the River Trent in 1982 v Hungary, 1988 v Scotland and 2009 v France.
Head coach Lee Carsley said: “We’re excited to be playing at such an iconic venue because we know The City Ground always generates a fantastic atmosphere.
“This will predominately be a new group of players setting out on a fresh challenge and I know they will be eager to continue to make the nation proud.
“The fixture will be a great opportunity for the people of Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas to see another exciting crop of Young Lions live, particularly following the high of this summer.”
As well as Luxembourg and Serbia, England have been drawn alongside Azerbaijan, Northern Ireland and Ukraine in Group F of 2025 U21 EURO qualifying.
