Nottinghamshire FA become White Ribbon Accredited

Nottinghamshire Football association has become White Ribbon Accredited making a commitment to ending men’s violence against women.

Nottinghamshire Football Association has committed to working to end men’s violence against women by becoming White Ribbon Accredited. As an Accredited organisation, Nottinghamshire Football Association will develop and deliver a comprehensive Action Plan to change the cultures that lead to abuse and violence and promote gender equality.  Some of the actions that will be taken include development of a Domestic and Sexual Violence Policy for employees, appointing volunteer Ambassadors to carry the message out to more men, training opportunities and awareness within our local community.

Elaine Oram, Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire Football Association said “Nottinghamshire Football Association is delighted to have been awarded the White Ribbon Accreditation, the first County Football Association to have achieved this. We look forward to working with White Ribbon UK and our local Charity Partner Broxtowe Women’s Project to raise awareness of domestic violence against women. We aim to provide support and education to our many players, coaches, referees, and volunteers to promote a positive culture of respect and equality and bring an end to violence against women”.

White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, and especially men and boys, to individually and collectively take action and change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence. To wear a white ribbon is to promise to never to commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women.

Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK said, “White Ribbon Accredited organisations are able to make a real difference towards ending violence against women by promoting a culture of respect and equality, among their staff and wider communities.  By raising awareness among employees, people can learn how to become allies and call out violent and abusive behaviour when they see it, at work and in the wider community.  We are delighted to welcome Nottinghamshire Football Association as one of our White Ribbon Accredited organisations and are looking forward to working with them towards ending violence against women once and for all”.

Chris Harris, Partnership Manager of Broxtowe Women’s Project said “BWP are pleased to have supported Nottinghamshire Football Association as they worked to towards White Ribbon Accreditation. Both organisations have a clear plan about how we can jointly share the important preventative White Ribbon messages moving forward. Together BWP and Nottinghamshire Football Association can make a real difference in the local community and more broadly by working with White Ribbon UK to encourage other groups to join us and spread the word”.
